Shoe Vouchers

Through a collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Cedar Rapids and other community organizations, children in foster care are eligible to receive one new pair of shoes through the Families Helping Families Shoe Voucher Program.

Thanks to our sponsors, we were able to dedicate funds to this program and provide shoes for children throughout the state. Only one pair of shoes per child is granted annually, and a voucher can be re-applied for every year.

Who qualifies for the Shoe Voucher Program?

Children in foster care, ages 4 to 18, are qualified for the Shoe Voucher program. Children who have been adopted from foster care do not qualify for this program.

Update as of Friday, July 1, 2022

Please note that we have made a significant change to this program. After evaluating our programming and budgetary needs, we have determined the greatest need for the Shoe Voucher Program is for school-aged children. Effective July 1, Shoe Vouchers will only be available for children ages 4 to 18.

How does the Shoe Voucher work?

Families may receive funding once every 12-months, based on the date of the approved application. Each Shoe Voucher is redeemable at Kohl’s for ONE pair of shoes, up to $50. If shoes cost more than $50, you will be expected to pay the difference. If shoes cost less than $50, the voucher does NOT carry a remaining balance for use at a later date.

Shoe Vouchers will be mailed directly to the address listed on your application within 1-2 weeks. All approvals are based on program fund balance and Families Helping Families of Iowa has the right to refuse funding to anyone.

Sports & Activity Footwear

If your child needs new shoes for sports or another activity, we can help. Through our Spread Your Wings activity scholarships, you can apply for sports and athletic footwear.
